Privacy Policy
This explains what Cañon City Times collects and why.
What we collect
- Your email address and display name (to run your account).
- Your password, stored only as a salted hash — never in plain text.
- If you sign in with Google: your Google email, name, and profile photo.
- Your IP address and browser user-agent, for security and abuse prevention.
- The content you post.
How we use it
To operate the forum, authenticate you, send verification and account emails, keep the community safe, and prevent spam and abuse. We don’t sell your personal data.
Cookies
We use a session cookie to keep you logged in and a CSRF cookie to protect form submissions (both required for the site to work), a small cookie to remember a trusted device for two-factor authentication, and a preference for light/dark theme. We don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Notifications
If you turn on browser/push notifications, we store the push subscription your browser provides so we can deliver alerts to your device. You can turn this off any time in your settings or your browser.
Service providers
We use a transactional email provider to deliver account emails, Cloudflare Turnstile to block bots, Cloudflare for DNS and security, a web-push service to deliver notifications, and (if enabled) Google for optional sign-in. These providers process the minimum data needed for those functions.
Retention & your choices
We keep your account data while your account is active. You can request deletion of your account by contacting the operators; some content may be retained or anonymized where required for the integrity of past discussions.
Children
The forum is not intended for anyone under 13.
