Community Rules

Welcome. Cañon City Times is a community space for Cañon City and the surrounding towns. Keep it useful and keep it civil. By posting you agree to these rules and our Terms. Moderators enforce these at their discretion.

1. Be respectful

Treat people the way you would in person. No personal attacks, name-calling, harassment, bullying, or threats. Disagree with ideas, not people. No hate speech or discrimination of any kind.

2. Keep it local and on-topic

Posts should be relevant to Cañon City and the surrounding area (Florence, Penrose, and nearby). Use the right thread for your topic, and have a quick look before starting a new one so we're not repeating the same thing over and over.

3. Crime and safety

Share safety alerts and describe what you saw, but do not name or label a private person as a criminal or suspect without a credible public source. No vigilantism and no calls for retaliation.

4. Protect privacy

Never post anyone's home address, phone number, workplace, license plate, daily schedule, or other private details. Don't post photos or video of identifiable people (especially kids) without a good reason. No "name and shame" threads.

5. Politics and hot topics

Civil local political and civic discussion is welcome in Politics & Civic Issues. Stick to issues, policies, and facts instead of tearing down your neighbors. Keep the heated stuff out of unrelated threads.

6. Keep it legal and truthful

No illegal content or activity. No defamation — don't state false claims about a person or business as if they're fact. Only post content you have the right to share.

7. No spam or constant self-promotion

No bulk advertising, repeated posting, chain posts, bots, referral links, or MLM/pyramid recruiting. Local businesses: an occasional, genuine recommendation is fine, but not constant ads. Fundraisers should be genuinely local — please don't spam them.

8. Reviews and complaints

Honest, factual accounts of your own experience with a local business are okay. No false claims, no harassment campaigns, and no organizing pile-ons against a person or business. Keep it civil and stick to what actually happened.

9. Keep it appropriate

People of all ages may see this. No pornography, graphic violence, or gore, and watch the language in titles and public threads.

10. Be yourself

One account per person. No impersonating other people, businesses, officials, or the staff, and no second accounts to get around a ban.

11. Respect moderation

Moderators may edit, move, lock, or remove content and may warn or suspend accounts to keep things healthy. If you disagree with a decision, message a moderator privately instead of fighting it in the thread. Posts are the opinions of their authors and do not represent Cañon City Times.

12. Report, don't argue

See something that breaks a rule? Use the Report button instead of replying — it's the fastest way to get a moderator on it.

Consequences

Depending on how serious it is, you may get a warning, have the content removed, get a temporary suspension, or a permanent ban. Serious violations — threats, doxxing, illegal content — can mean an immediate ban.
