What This Is
We are a community website for Cañon City and the towns around us like Florence and Penrose. I kept noticing all our local stuff was spread across a dozen different Facebook groups. So I built one organized place for all of these groups for a more official setting.
How it works
It's set up like a forum, not an endless feed. Everything's grouped into topic sections, and inside each one people start threads that anyone can reply to. Because it's sorted by topic instead of run by an algorithm, stuff doesn't get buried an hour after you post it. You can search the whole site, you can save individual posts and you can follow any thread to get a heads up by email, or right on your phone when someone replies. Add the site to your home screen and it runs like an app.
Sections
- Events & Happenings — post and find local events, markets, meetings, school and sports stuff.
- Crime & Safety Reports — alerts, suspicious activity, and scams going around. Report what you actually saw!
- Lost & Found (and a separate one for pets) — lost or found belongings and animals.
- City & County Government — local government news, meetings, and public notices.
- Politics & Civic Issues — local civic and political talk, kept civil.
- Rant and Rave — general local talk for everything else going on around town.
- Introductions — swing by and say hi.
- Suggestions / Site Reports — tell me what to fix, add, or anything that's broken.
Getting started
Make an account (sign in with Google in one tap, or use email). Pick your @username, put your name, add a photo if you want, and head to Introductions to introduce yourself. Then jump into whatever you're into.
The rules
Quick read before you post: canoncitytimes.com/rules. Nothing crazy. Be respectful, keep it local, no doxxing, and for crime and safety, share what you saw but don't accuse people without a credible source. It's moderated to keep things useful and civil, which is the whole point of doing this.
